According to an article in the Globe today, Burke is hesitant to go after Savard before exploring other options, which the writer believes include a potential trade with Philly for Jeff Carter.
As everyone knows, had Kaberle waived his no trade clause, the Leafs could have had Carter and a 1st for Kaberle a couple of years back. Even if Philly were willing to move Carter now (I don't understand why they'd want to do this), the return this time would be much lower and would likely be Kabs + something for Carter.
Still, if Burke could make it happen, I'd love to see it. Carter is one of the best young players in the NHL and would be a great fit next to Phil Kessel for many years to come. Would Kaberle plus the rights to Kulemin be enough to get a deal done?
